HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A federal appellate court panel has appointed Montana’s bankruptcy judge to a second 14-year term.
The reappointment of U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ralph Kirscher was announced Friday by Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Kirscher has served under a six-month extension since his term expired last year. The 62-year-old judge and Livingston native is the only full-time federal judge on the Montana bankruptcy court, which handled more than 1,800 cases in fiscal year 2013.
Kirscher is a 1979 graduate of the University of Montana Law School and was in private practice prior in Missoula before his 1999 appointment to the federal bench.
He has presided over high-profile cases such as the Southern Montana Electric Generation and Transmission co-op and Yellowstone Club bankruptcies.
