GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A trial is underway in Great Falls in the case of a woman charged with shaking her 6-month-old daughter, causing fatal injuries.
The Great Falls Tribune reports (https://gftrib.com/1miXTE1 ) opening arguments were held Wednesday in the trial of Jasmine Eskew, who is charged with deliberate homicide in the September 2012 death of her daughter, Brooklyn.
Prosecutors say Eskew told police she violently shook her daughter and delayed seeking medical treatment because she was afraid she’d get in trouble.
Public defender Jennifer Streano argued Eskew’s confession was coerced and that the infant’s injuries were inflected by Eskew’s then-boyfriend, Greg Robey. Streano argued the medical examiner documented the baby suffered a “massive blow to the head,” while Eskew said she shook the baby.
The trial could take up to two weeks.
