SORRENTO, La. (AP) - Sorrento homeowners will not face an annual increase in garbage rates this year under the five-year contract renewal approved by the Town Council with Republic Services of Baton Rouge.

Republic’s Karla Swacker told the Town Council Tuesday night the household monthly collection fee of $18.86 will remain the same until Aug. 1, 2015.

As part of the contract renewal, Swacker says the town can add curbside recycling as it becomes available in the area, and Republic Services will help the town advertise its curbside pickup options.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1gzMXda ) the new contract begins Aug. 1 and expires July 31, 2019.
