GARY, Ind. (AP) - Police in northwestern Indiana say a man stole a private ambulance and led officers on a chase through several communities before he was caught in Chicago.
Prompt Ambulance Services president Gary Miller says the ambulance was taken on Tuesday after the driver stopped at a dialysis clinic in Gary and left it to see whether a patient was ready.
The Times of Munster and the Post-Tribune report police officers spotted the ambulance and followed it on a winding route through northern Lake County. Police say the driver then crossed into the south side of Chicago, where he stopped to end the 30-minute chase.
A 34-year-old Gary man was arrested without incident. Charges were pending against him in Indiana and Illinois.
Miller says the ambulance wasn’t damaged.
