CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Icy roads forced schools systems in portions of North Carolina to cancel another day of classes, while the northern mountains were still facing a threat of more frozen precipitation.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported Guilford County schools canceled classes on Tuesday, the tenth day lost to weather this school year because of ice or snow.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the northern mountains and adjacent foothills effective until Wednesday morning. Forecasters expect freezing rain and drizzle will create a light icy glaze on elevated surfaces.

Police in Winston-Salem said a tractor-trailer skidded to avoid stopped traffic on N.C. 52 Monday night, and the tractor struck a gas main to start a fire. Authorities said the truck driver suffered minor injuries.
