MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The multi-county group that’s spearheading a flood control project for the Souris River Valley in northern North Dakota is getting state help to hire a full-time worker.

KMXC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1j0kwsb ) that the North Dakota Water Commission voted Monday to give $200,000 to the Souris River Joint Board to hire a project manager.

Board member David Ashley says there are many engineering and planning details to be worked out, and officials also must decide how best to pursue funding for the $800 million project.

Ashley says local and state funds will be important to building the flood control project, but federal money will make or break the plan.

The flood control plan is in response to record flooding in summer 2011 that caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage.
