LUMBERTON, Miss. (AP) - Lumberton Public School District Superintendent Robert Walker will retire on July 1.

In a statement, he said he wanted to spend more time with family and pursue other interests.

Walker has 43 years in education, the last 24 in area schools.

Walker is the third area superintendent to announce retirement.

Earlier this month, Petal School District Superintendent John Buchanan announced he was retiring, effective June 1.

Lamar School District Superintendent Ben Burnett announced in late January that he would step away from his job, also effective June 1.
