NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Three Port Authority police officers have filed a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn promotions they say were unlawful.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court in Newark, charges the promotion process was rife with “nepotism, cronyism and unlawful practices,” according to The Star-Ledger (https://bit.ly/1qP4Ld5 ).
The suit is seeking damages and wants to overturn the promotion of 96 other officers since 2010.
The three plaintiffs say they met the requirements to be promoted but were passed over while less qualified officers were promoted.
The suit stems from a Port Authority police scandal that came to light in 2012 following revelations that a high-ranking department member had photographed questions and answers to the sergeant’s exam.
A report on the incident by the Port Authority Inspector General’s office has never been made public.
