CHICAGO (AP) - Several northern Illinois communities are getting millions of dollars to help recover from last year’s floods.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said Tuesday that Chicago, Cook County, DuPage County and the state of Illinois will get more than $128 million in grants to help recovery efforts from flooding and powerful storms that struck last April and May.
The money is provided through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant Program. It can be used for housing, business and infrastructure projects
The city of Chicago will receive $48 million, Cook County $55 million and DuPage County $19 million.
The state will get almost $7 million, and may use it for needs in any areas it can prove were severely affected by a federally declared disaster in 2011, 2012, or 2013.
