SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - An ex-jailer is headed to prison for his role in the beating and cover-up of a former inmate at the DeSoto County Jail.
A federal judge on Monday sentenced 56-year-old Vincent Carlucci to 10 months in federal prison, followed by one year of probation.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1iYiAEQ ) reports Carlucci pleaded guilty last year to one count of obstruction of justice and faced up to 20 years in prison.
He was accused of lying to investigators who were looking into allegations by former inmate Jody Holland. Holland said he was beaten three times at the jail.
Carlucci is the second former jailer to take a plea deal in the case. Ray Kugler pleaded guilty in October to lying to FBI agents and was sentenced to three years of probation.
