NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to build a replacement levee stretching from Augusta to Cedar Grove in Plaquemines Parish.
Tikigaq Construction LLC will do the work under a contract of about $8 million. Completion is expected by May 2015.
Elevation of the levee will average 22.5 feet to 24.5 feet.
The project is part of a larger effort to improve Mississippi River levees along the river’s west bank to reduce the risk from hurricane-driven flooding.
