BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police say the driver of a MAX DART bus that fatally struck a special needs woman was at fault in a crash on March 4.
Police Department spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards says a 51-year-old driver failed to yield the right of way to 25-year-old Pouneh Bahri, who was in a crosswalk at the time.
Investigators have said Bahri was walking home from a nearby school that specializes in teaching special-needs adults independent living skills.
Authorities say the driver wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, and the driver’s cellphone show that no calls or texts were transmitted until after the crash.
Edwards says the investigation’s findings were turned over to the District Attorney’s office and no charges are expected to be filed.
