BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - St. Patrick’s Day revelers in Michigan have faced a test of their hardiness as temperatures mainly in the teens greet those marking the annual celebration of the Irish saint.

Michigan temperatures were mainly in the teens Sunday at the start of parades in Bay City and Detroit.

An organizer tells The Bay City Times that about 5,500 people braved the cold to participate in a series of races and walks before the city’s parade.

MLive.com says about 9,500 people took part in the 32nd annual Corktown Races that preceded the Detroit St. Patrick’s day parade.

Detroit’s parade began at noon and featured pipe and drum bands, color guard units, floats and clowns. WWJ-AM says the cold made it hard for bagpipe players to feel their hands.
