SALINA, Kan. (AP) - Andrew Pyle scored 21 points and McPherson took down Hayden 57-40 on Saturday in the Kansas Class 4A-I boys state title game to claim its 12th state championship.

Top-seeded McPherson (23-1) had an easier time with Hayden (14-11) after it needed overtime to top Paola in the semifinal Friday.

The Bullpups jumped to a 25-14 halftime lead, and continued to pull away in the second half.



McPherson hit 5 of 14 from long range, led by Pyle who was 4 of 6. Pyle had three early 3-pointers to give the Bullpups a 20-9 lead.

Hayden made just 2 of 17 3-point attempts.

Kyler Kinnamon added 10 points for McPherson. The win marked the fifth state title since 1996 for McPherson.

Jacob Head scored 16 points to lead Hayden. Marcus Meier added 13.
