OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP) - Olive Branch officials are holding a public meeting Tuesday on whether to lift restrictions on building heights near the city airport.
The board of alderman is considering repealing part of a zoning ordinance that pertains to building heights near the airport.
The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1m7hmaR ) that airport officials are opposing the change. They say the future growth of the airport is in jeopardy if a building is allowed at any height. Construction would impede extension of the runway.
A developer, McNeill CRE, wants to build a 660,000-square-foot, 36-foot-high building south of the runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration has determined the building will constitute a hazard, but the ruling is only advisory.
The mayor’s office says the ordinance is outdated, vague and confusing and could not support a legal challenge.
