BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - As Chittenden County Transportation Authority bus drivers prepare to go on strike, Burlington city officials are advising residents of alternative transportation options.
Mayor Miro Weinberger says the state operates a carpool matching service through Go Vermont, which is online at www.connectingcommuters.org .
He also says two downtown parking garages - on Cherry and College streets - typically have space on weekdays and offer two hours of free parking.
The city also encourages residents to help their families, friends and neighbors with transportation if a strike occurs.
The bus drivers plan to go on strike Monday after rejecting CCTA’s contract offer. They also turned down CCTA’s offer to settle the differences through binding arbitration.
The drivers carry about 9,500 people per day in the state’s largest county.
