MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Malik Hicks scored 29 points and hit his final eight free throws to help Jackson South Side beat East Nashville Magnet 91-83 in double overtime Saturday for the Division I Class AA boy’s state basketball championship.

Jaylen Barford and Chris McNeal added 25 points apiece for the Hawks (32-2), last year’s runner-up who captured their first boys’ basketball state title. McNeal hit five 3-pointers in regulation, then had a layup and two free throws in the second overtime.

Hicks sank the final free throws in regulation after Thomas Booker’s three-point play put the Eagles (28-6) up 75-73, and the tourney MVP tied it at 82 on free throws to end the first OT. Barford, hero in a semifinal upset over two-time champ Christ Presbyterian, scored four points in the final OT.

Terry Holt and Booker had 26 points each for East Nashville, while Isiah Upton scored 19.
