STREAMWOOD, Ill. (AP) - Police in suburban Chicago have taken a high school student into custody after finding a handgun just beyond school property.

In a statement, police say officers responded after Streamwood High School officials became aware of rumors among students that a gun had been brought to the school.

Police say the school was placed on lockdown for about an hour and a half Friday afternoon while officers conducted a search with dogs.



Charges have not been filed and the name of the student taken into custody was not released.
