BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - Prosecutors say a former Butte man recently charged with killing his father more than five years ago beat him to death with a baseball bat.

Court documents released Friday and obtained by the Montana Standard (https://bit.ly/1e4Y3KF ) say DNA evidence links 24-year-old Adam Hatfield to the beating death of 49-year-old Matt Hatfield.

The documents say the top of Matt Hatfield’s skull was found near a campground north of Butte. The rest of the body is still missing.

Authorities say Adam Hatfield killed his father at a cabin south of Butte. He was charged Monday with deliberate homicide in Justice Court.

Investigators say a search of the cabin in 2008 found splattered blood and an apparent attempt to cover up a violent confrontation.

Adam Hatfield remains jailed on $500,000 bail.
