WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - An investigation clears two Wilmington police officers of wrongdoing for fatally shooting a woman whose ex-boyfriend called for help over concerns she was suicidal.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports (https://bit.ly/1iOpcRT ) that New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David announced the decision after a State Bureau of Investigation probe.

Police Chief Ralph Evangelous says he’s increasing efforts to train all Wilmington officers in crisis intervention after the January shooting of Gracie Louise Denk, a 21-year-old former Marine and community college student.

The district attorney says Denk was suicidal and police shot her when she suddenly raised a handgun from her lap toward officers with her finger on the trigger. David says the officer who fired believed his life and a fellow officer’s were in grave danger.
