HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Mahlon Martin scored 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting as Episcopal Collegiate held on in the closing minutes for a 62-56 win over Charleston in the boys Class 3A state championship game.
The title is the first for the Wildcats (29-3), who lost in the championship game last year.
Martin was 3 of 3 on 3-pointers for Episcopal, which trailed by as many as seven points in the first quarter before rallying to lead 45-43 after three quarters. Allie Freeman added 17 points, while Kelvin Robinson and Justin Gooseberry had 10 each.
The Wildcats were 22 of 44 (50 percent) from the field, while Charleston hit 23 of 47 (48.9 percent) shots.
Matthew Ward led the Tigers (31-6) with 20 points, while Ty Storey had 18 on 8-of-9 shooting.
