ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Crews in Rochester are busy removing snow from downtown streets along the route of the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade this weekend.
Nearly 18 inches of snow fell on the Rochester area during Wednesday’s blizzard, leaving the public works department with the major task of clearing streets and sidewalks as well as staging areas in time for Saturday’s downtown parade.
Temperatures in the 40s Friday will help melt some of the snow, while crews use heavy equipment and dump trucks to haul away tons of snow.
Rochester officials say they expect to have everything cleared by the time thousands of people head downtown for the parade, which steps off at 12:30 p.m.
