SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah legislators have introduced a historic high number of bills this session, with 772 pieces of legislation introduced as of Friday.

Orem Republican Sen. John Valentine provided the numbers on Monday.

Valentine is chairman of chairs the Senate Rules Committee, which is the clearinghouse for bills entering the chamber.

He says only 210 bills had passed both chambers as of Friday, which is significantly lower than their average this time of year.

Of those 210 bills, 113 originated in the House. Another 97 are Senate bills.

Gov. Gary Herbert’s office announced late Monday that he has signed 19 bills.
