ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A Louisiana couple indicted on hundreds of charges of sexual abuse of juveniles will go before the judge April 1 for a pre-trial conference.
The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/1cMmEpl ) Dorothy Jean Vanasselberg, 32, of Elmer, and Kyle Smith Hauenstein, 39, formerly of Pineville, were indicted Feb. 27 by a grand jury on nearly 800 combined counts ranging from pornography with juveniles to aggravated incest and aggravated rape - two offenses that are punishable by life in prison.
Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested Vanasselberg July 25, 2013, a day after a family member filed a complaint against Vanasselberg.
Vanasselberg first was charged with one count each of aggravated incest, aggravated sexual battery, pornography with juveniles and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
After further investigation, those charges grew exponentially, and Vanasselberg’s bond was set at $2.031 million.
A grand jury indicted Vanasselberg on 53 counts of aggravated rape, 42 counts of sexual battery, 79 counts of aggravated incest, 48 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and 25 counts of pornography with juveniles.
The investigation also revealed that Vanasselberg shared with Hauenstein more than the one photo found by the complainant, and that Hauenstein shared with Vanasselberg photos and videos of the same nature.
Hauenstein, who had fled Pineville, was arrested Aug. 7 on a fugitive warrant in Washington County, Oregon. He was extradited to Rapides Parish on Aug. 31.
His bond was set at $2.819 million.
A grand jury indicted Hauenstein on 61 counts of aggravated rape, 41 counts of sexual battery, 26 counts of aggravated incest, 65 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and 355 counts of pornography with juveniles.
It was unclear whether Vanasselberg and Hauenstein have attorneys.
