CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - A contractor convicted in the Central Falls corruption scandal is dropping a $32,000 lawsuit against the city.
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1nEU3Do ) that City Solicitor Matthew Jerzyk reached an agreement Monday with contractor Michael Bouthillette’s lawyer to have the claim dismissed.
Bouthillette said the city never paid him for cleanup work his firm did at the Adams Memorial Library. The Journal reports Bouthillette’s company did the job with then-Mayor Charles Moreau’s backing, but the library board never approved it.
Bouthillette was sentenced to probation and community service last year for corruption, after his company made more than $1 million from a no-bid city contract. Moreau is serving two years in federal prison for corruption for accepting a furnace, home repairs and other work from Bouthillette.
