SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - During its two-day amnesty program, Southaven police collected $24,495 and cleared 235 old warrants.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/N0sS8z ) this is the fourth time the police and court departments have held the “Operation Safe Surrender” program that allows people with outstanding misdemeanor warrants to come to court and clear them.

Police sent out 1,200 notices recently reminding people of what they owe on the warrants.

People who came in during the two-day program last week could pay off what they owed or pay a portion and set up a payment plan for the balance.

Police said $32,820 will be collected from the payment plans.
