OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Arts Council and Oklahoma Historical Society are partnering to pay tribute to artist Allan Houser.
Receptions are scheduled Monday at the state Capitol and at the Oklahoma History Center for Houser, a Chiricahua Apache artist famous for his sculptures and drawings.
Guests will include Houser’s son, Phillip Haozous, and David Rettig, the curator of collections for Allan Houser Inc. in Santa Fe, N.M. During the reception, the Native American caucus will formally recognize the Houser family.
One of Houser’s most significant works is The Sacred Rain Arrow, an image that has been reproduced on Oklahoma’s license plates.
