CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - A southern New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges stemming from the death of an acquaintance he attacked outside a Jimmy Buffett concert in 2012.
Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk says 23-year-old Matthew Shields of Westville entered his plea Monday. He’s expected to receive a four-year state prison term when he’s sentenced May 16.
Shields admitted to punching 20-year-old Ryan Cole of Bellmawr in the back of the head in August 2012. The attack occurred while Cole tailgated with friends in the parking lot of the Susquehanna Center in Camden, on the shore of the Delaware River.
Cole hit his head on the pavement when he fell and died three days later.
