GOLDEN VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - A Kingman man is recovering in a Nevada hospital after falling about 50 feet while rappelling a cliff in northwestern Arizona.

Mohave County Sheriff’s officials say 21-year-old Robert Rodriguez suffered several compound fractures to one of his legs and hips.

He told authorities that he was hiking with two friends and rappelling down to a stream Saturday afternoon when his rope snapped.

The accident occurred in the Black Mountains known as the Dripping Springs near the town of Golden Valley.

Rodriguez was airlifted out of the canyon an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter and transported to a Las Vegas hospital.
