CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A pilot killed when his small plane crashed near Carson City has been identified as a 59-year-old Wellington man.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says crews recovered the body of Joseph James Miceli on Monday, a day after another pilot flying in the area spotted wreckage in the Pine Nut range southeast of Carson City.

Furlong says the 1946 fixed-wing, single-engine Cessna was one of several owned by Miceli.

Authorities say preliminary information suggests Miceli took off from Wellington Saturday afternoon. He was reported missing the next day around the same time the crash site was discovered.

Furlong says it’s not immediately known if Miceli ever arrived at the Carson City airport or if the crash occurred while he was returning to Wellington.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
