WARREN, Maine (AP) - A spokesman for the Maine State Police says the death of an inmate at the state prison in Warren has been ruled a homicide.
An autopsy was conducted Saturday on the body of 37-year-old Micah Boland, of Rockland, who died at about 4:40 p.m. Friday.
Spokesman Steve McCausland says state police detectives worked through the night at the prison, interviewing staff and other inmates. He says they identified a 35-year-old suspect and anticipate charging him with murder next week.
Corrections Department Spokesman Scott Fish says Boland had served six years of a 22-year sentence.
When Boland was convicted in 2008 of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl it was the first application in Maine of Jessica’s Law, which imposes tougher sentences on people convicted of some sex crimes involving children.
