Man who attempted to flee courtroom sentenced

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A man who attempted to flee a Pierce County courtroom on Valentine’s Day has been sentenced to 26 years in prison.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/YVLWjS ) Deondre Posey received his sentence on Friday for a 2010 attempted murder conviction.

Two weeks ago Posey abruptly took off running during a hearing and headed for an exit to the main hallway of a Pierce County courthouse. He didn’t get out of the courtroom before being taken back into custody.

The 26-year-old was arrested in 2010 during a crackdown on the Hilltop Crips, a Tacoma street gang. His original conviction stemmed from a shooting that left a man paralyzed.

Posey also faces an April 9 trial date tied to new charges of attempted escape and resisting arrest following the Feb. 14 incident.
