Virginia tea party candidate David Brat, who upset former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in last month’s primary, is now racking up support and donations, raising nearly $400,000 by the end of June.
Mr. Brat has received $609,144 so far in the election cycle and stands with $218,873 cash on hand. His Democratic opponent, Jack Trammell, has not yet submitted his campaign’s second quarter filings.
Mr. Brat received a number of donations from high-profile conservatives, including the PACs of Sarah Palin, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie and Virginia Rep. Robert Hurt, as well as Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith’s re-election committee.
Mr. Brat also received $5,000 from the 7th District Republican Committee, previously affiliated with Mr. Cantor.
