GENOA, Italy (AP) - The Serie A derby between Genoa and Sampdoria has been moved from Sunday lunchtime to Monday night to appease fans.

The switch was decided on Friday, only 48 hours before the scheduled kickoff, for public security.

City authorities requested the change, with the region’s biggest market taking place at the same time, near the stadium.

The decision will please the fans, who threatened to strike in protest at the early kickoff.

Genoa won the first derby of the season 3-0. It is 11th in the Serie A table, five points ahead of 13th-place Sampdoria.
