HARTS, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia State Police say a trooper shot and killed a man after he pointed a handgun at the officer.

State police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous says the trooper was responding to a report of a suicidal man when 42-year-old Curley Edward Spry pointed the gun at him.

The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon on Briar Branch in Harts.



Baylous says the trooper has been placed on critical incident leave.

The trooper’s name wasn’t released.
