DETROIT (AP) - Most Michigan schools are back open after many closed for several days amid dangerously cold temperatures and snow.

In the Detroit area, only a handful of closings were reported Thursday. Hundreds of Michigan elementary, middle and high schools were shut Tuesday and Wednesday, and some in parts of western Michigan had been closed since late last week due to weather.

MLive.com reports school closures Thursday in Gratiot and Isabella counties in mid-Michigan. In western Michigan, a few dozen closings or delays were reported.
