NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Hampton Roads will need at least another day to thaw out from a winter storm that brought as much as 10 inches of snow.
Temperatures were only forecast to go above freezing briefly Thursday afternoon before dropping back down again.
The National Weather Service forecasts that temperatures in south Hampton Roads could reach 44 degrees on Friday. While interstates and major thoroughfares have largely been cleared of snow, most residential and side streets are still covered in several inches of snow and ice.
Most schools in south Hampton Roads have canceled classes again for Friday. The Navy is also telling only mission-essential personnel to report to work at its south Hampton Roads bases.
