HOLDEN, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri company is facing a $35,000 fine after one of its employees died in a trench collapse.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration says the death last October of 49-year-old Brian Allen of Windsor at a work site in Lee’s Summit could have been avoided. It has recommended the fine against Larry Strate Plumbing & Heating of Holden.
OSHA says Allen would not have died if a trench protection required by federal regulations had been used at the site.
Strate told The Kansas City Star (https://bit.ly/1fqfWnf ) that he will appeal and try to have the fine reduced.
Allen was installing a sewer line to a house when the earth gave way. It took authorities more than 24 hours to recover his body.
