WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris, the only mayor many of the city’s residents have ever known, said he will run for a 10th - and final - term this spring.

If Norris wins and serves out his full term, he will have served 40 years as West Monroe’s mayor.

Norris, who was a professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe when he first ran for the job, said he never dreamed public service would become a lifelong career.

Norris continued to teach part time at ULM and at Louisiana Tech University through the turn of the century, but retired from teaching in 2003.

The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1b80LKS ) Norris ran without opposition during his last election, and so far nobody has announced plans to challenge him this time.
