EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A 13-year-old Everett, Wash., boy has been sentenced to at least four years in juvenile detention for the armed robberies of a bikini espresso stand and a market.
In the espresso stand robbery, police say the then-12-year-old boy rode up on a bike, ordered a drink and pulled out a handgun, threatening to shoot the barista in the leg. Then he dumped the tip jar into his backpack and rode off.
The Daily Herald reports (https://is.gd/PW1jvV ) the boy pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of first-degree robbery. He says he borrowed the gun from a 16-year-old boy he met through church. That teen was earlier sentenced to two years for a separate armed robbery.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Ellen Fair declined a defense request to release the boy to his parents under a plan that would have amounted to house arrest for two years.
The teen’s parents apologized in court for their son’s actions.
