UNION, Ore. (AP) - A one-mile stretch of Highway 203 near Union, Ore., reopened Wednesday after it was closed Tuesday night because of flooding caused by an ice jam at Catherine Creek.

The La Grande Observer reports (https://is.gd/0AegZp ) the road was also closed Monday night after water pushed a massive pile of ice onto a 150- to 200-yard stretch of highway.

Oregon Department of Transportation crews cleared the ice.

Union public works director Paul Phillips told the newspaper that the ice jam is continuing to build and could lead to a “pretty ugly” flooding situation.
