NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say three people have been injured, including a firefighter, in a fire at a Staten Island home where there are elevated gas readings.

The Fire Department says a call came in around 5 p.m. of an odor of gas at the home on Delaware Street. At 6:50 p.m., a report came in of a fire in the basement.

The fire was under control at 7:01 p.m.

The Fire Department says two people in the home suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. A firefighter was also injured, and was in serious but stable condition.

Gas readings in the area were still elevated, and homes in a three-block radius were evacuated.
