CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - Two security officers for St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley are the subject of an internal affairs investigation after using a criminal database to run criminal background checks.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1jILjgf ) the investigation will determine whether the officers had legal and legitimate reasons for checking the background of a police board candidate.

Dooley said he was unaware of the investigation and that he had not asked the officers to run the background check.

County Chief Tim Fitch raised questions when he discovered the officers ran a background check into former police board candidate David Spence. Fitch says the officers aren’t authorized to use the database for such purposes.
