ATMORE, Ala. (AP) - An Escambia County man is getting the death penalty after being convicted of killing his girlfriend in 2011.
Jurors in Atmore recommended by an 11-1 vote that 32-year-old Cedric Jerome Floyd get the death penalty in the shooting death of Tina Jones.
A statement from the attorney general’s office says Jones had been trying to leave the tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship.
Prosecutors say Floyd climbed through Jones’ bedroom window shortly after midnight and shot her in the back as she was trying to flee. He then shot her two more times.
Prosecutors say Floyd left Jones threatening messages just hours before the slaying saying she would hate the fact that she ever met him.
A jury convicted Floyd in October in a trial that lasted more than three weeks.
