DORTMUND, Germany (AP) - Borussia Dortmund may go the transfer market to compensate for the loss of midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski, who is out for the season with a knee injury.
Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke says the Bundesliga club is “testing the market” and would not “rule out that we act” after Blaszczykowski’s injury. The Poland captain tore a ligament in his right knee in Saturday’s 2-2 home draw with Augsburg.
With midfielder Ilkay Gundogan still unable to return five months into a back injury, the club needs to bolster its midfield.
Last season’s Champions League runner-up has been hit by a series of injuries and is third in the standings, 14 points behind leader Bayern Munich.
