SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) - South Lake Tahoe Councilwoman Angela Swanson has been cleared of wrongdoing after a bribery investigation by El Dorado County prosecutors.

Swanson was under investigation for accepting cash from Gennaro “Gino” DiMatteo between two votes concerning the fate of his former medical marijuana dispensary in the city.

The Tahoe Daily Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/19Wvyie ) the roughly $1,100 in cash was for the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation, a charity in which Swanson is involved.

District Attorney Vern Pierson says an investigation found that DiMatteo thought he needed to make a donation to a local charity prior to Swanson’s vote on the dispensary.

Pierson says while it’s clear DiMatteo believed he was trying to bribe Swanson, it’s equally clear Swanson had already intended to vote favorably for his dispensary.

Pierson says Swanson harbored no criminal intent and the case is closed.
