ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police say a man apparently killed himself after a nearly 10-hour standoff.
Anchorage police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro says in a news release that officers responded to an apartment around 5:30 a.m. Sunday after a report that an armed man threatened to kill a woman inside. Their identities and relationship weren’t released.
Castro says the woman fled and sought help from a neighbor. Police tried to get the man barricaded inside the apartment to surrender peacefully. A SWAT team came around 10 a.m.
The Anchorage Daily News (https://bit.ly/1brpdGF ) reports the apartment complex was evacuated.
Castro says police tried using a PA system, noise frequencies and gas to get the man to come out.
Police entered the unit around 3 p.m. and found the man unresponsive. The cause of death hasn’t been released.
