MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A former West Virginia State Police trooper must pay restitution for leave pay he received for training he didn’t attend.

The Herald-Mail (https://bit.ly/1d3FKAH ) of Hagerstown, Md., reports that 26-year-old Johnathan D. Brand of Morgantown pleaded guilty earlier this month to obtaining money by false pretenses. Berkeley County Magistrate Betty Jo Hersh ordered Brand to pay more than $4,400 in restitution and fined him $100.

Brand was accused of submitting leave requests to attend military training when he no longer was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. Prosecutors say he received more than $4,400 in leave pay between April 2012 and March 2013.

Brand was assigned to the Martinsburg detachment at the time.
