LIVINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the cause of a one-car, off-duty crash that claimed the life of a veteran officer with a Hudson Valley police department.

Officials in Columbia County tell local media outlets that 35-year-old William Wrigley was driving alone on a road in his hometown of Livingston when his car left the road and hit a tree around 5:15 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say he was an 11-year veteran of the police department in the nearby city of Hudson.

The Register-Star of Hudson reports that dozens of people including family and co-workers braved the cold and snow Saturday night at a park in Hudson to hold a vigil in Wrigley’s memory.

The county sheriff and coroner re leading an investigation into the cause of the crash.
