ELIZABETHTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky travelers are being asked to keep an eye out for stranded motorists as low temperatures, snow and ice move in to the area.
Slick roads and limited visibility had already caused at least two big accidents on Saturday morning. In Anderson County, a multi-vehicle accident involving a Transportation Cabinet snow operations vehicle temporarily closed the eastbound lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway.
Another multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 65 at mile marker 61 in Hart County had traffic backed up for two miles Saturday morning. The road was reduced to one lane with officials saying that closure could be necessary.
Meanwhile, the City of Independence declared a “snow emergency” Saturday morning.
The State Police are asking anyone who sees a stranded motorist to call 911 or the state police at 1-800-222-5555.
